Dr. Charles
(Kalev) Ehin is Professor of Management Emeritus and the former Dean
of the Gore School of Business at Westminster College of Salt Lake
City. He was born in Tallinn, Estonia. From there he and his father
fled to Germany during World War II. After the war he completed his
elementary education in Hamburg, Germany and spent a year at sea as
a deckboy before immigrating to the United States in 1950. Ehin holds
a B.A. degree from Colgate University, an M.B.A. from Syracuse University,
a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma and an honorary doctorate from
Westminster College.

Besides Westminster College, he has taught for the US Air Force Air Command and Staff College, the Auburn University Graduate School, and the University of Utah. In 1996 and 2001 he was the recipient of the Manford A. Shaw Publication Prize at Westminster College. Ehin’s research has led him into such diverse fields as anthropology, evolutionary biology and psychology, molecular biology, neuroscience, social network analysis, and knowledge management in attempting to find commonalities in these disciplines that will help determine the effects of various organizational contexts on human nature and the innovative capabilities of knowledge workers. He has published numerous articles based on his findings culminating in the writing of two landmark books, Unleashing Intellectual Capital (Butterworth-Heinemann, 2000), and Hidden Assets: Harnessing the Power of Informal Networks (Springer, 2005). He is also the author of Aftermath (Publish America, 2004), which is a personal account of the origins and after effects of World War II in Europe. |

Prior to joining Westminster, Dr. Ehin was the Manager for Organization Development at E-Systems, Montek Division, Salt Lake City, Utah. Beginning in l960, Ehin held numerous leadership positions in the United States Air Force for 20 years. His assignments varied from law enforcement in California, commanding a missile crew in Nebraska and gathering intelligence in Southeast Asia to working with Dr. Frederick Herzberg in directing the Job Enrichment Program at Hill Air Force Base, Utah and managing the Iranian F-16 Fighter Acquisition Program in Tehran, Iran. Before leaving the Air Force, he was the Director of the Office of Productivity for the Air Force Logistics Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Dr. Ehin was a member of
the Board of Directors of Capital City Bank in Salt Lake City before
the bank was sold. He also served on the Advisory Committee to the
CEO Roundtable of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, was a Commissioner
for the baccalaureate and graduate programs of the Association of
Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, and was a member of the
District Export Council of the U.S. Department of Commerce. |
